I set up a tripod and photographed each fold creating a stop motion animation. This was the only way forward because to recreate a fold in After Effects requires a lot of time and deals with 3D spacing which was too much to learn and get my head around in the time available.
I found it difficult when it came to making a transition to the next word. Originally I wanted to fold the word away, but by experimenting in the shoot I worked out I could just blow the letters away and capture this by lowering the shutter speed.
